**UPDATE** (11/15/2024) Johnie had a long and stressful day yesterday, but we are ecstatic to report that her brain surgery/shunt procedure went perfectly. We will provide more updates as they occur, but for now we are feeling incredibly grateful for this huge step. Love to all, Jordan and Keri
Dear Family and Friends,
I am writing to you with a humble heart and a hopeful spirit, reaching out for support during a challenging time for me and my family. My name is Jordan, my fiance’s name is Keri, and we both live and work in Bend, Oregon. I am a builder and a coach, and Keri owns and operates a recovery treatment facility for women in Central Oregon. We have dedicated our lives to serving our community, giving back through volunteer work, and offering our time and love to those in need. Today, we find ourselves in need of that same compassion and support.
On October 17th, 2024, our beloved daughter, Johnie Lynn Johnson, was born. Keri had a long and stressful labor, which included a week in the hospital and an emergency C-Section delivery. It was scary, but ultimately we were able to go home with our healthy and beautiful baby girl. The next week were some of the happiest days of our lives.
Then, 8 days after being born, and without warning, Johnie faced an unexpected and serious medical crisis. Around 7:30 p.m. on October 24th we noticed changes in her health and behavior, and we took immediate action. We spent that night at St. Charles in Bend (the wonderful hospital that had delivered Johnie to us) running tests and searching for answers. As morning approached, it was decided that more resources were needed, which we could find in Portland. Johnie was airlifted to the pediatric ICU at Randall Children’s Hospital, where we have been ever since.
There is an extraordinary team of medical professionals working tirelessly to address her unique condition. She is facing a combination of medical challenges, including Intraventricular Hemorrhaging, Hydrocephalus, Sinus Thrombosis, Diabetes Insipidus D.I. In layman’s terms, she is experiencing brain bleeding, brain swelling, and frequent seizures. Over the last few days, Johnie’s brain swelling has escalated. On Thursday, she will be undergoing a procedure to reduce that swelling using a device called a shunt. The hope is the shunt will drain fluid from the brain and reduce the swelling.
While we felt that we were as prepared as we could be for the arrival of Johnie Lynn, we now realize that nothing compares to a situation like this. While our primary focus is, of course, Johnie’s health, we can’t help but feel the financial burdens that are mounting. As it currently sits, Johnie’s insurance will cover roughly 70% of the hospital bills, leaving us with debts that feel insurmountable. We are looking down the barrel of costs that may reach upwards of $1.5 million. This doesn’t include a possible lifetime of care.
To be blunt, we are reaching out now to seek financial assistance to help cover the mounting medical expenses. Your support would make an immeasurable difference in our lives and allow us to focus on what truly matters—our daughter’s recovery and well-being.
Thank you for answering our cry for help. We are immensely grateful for any support you can offer, whether it be financial, emotional, or simply keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. Your kindness and generosity means the world to our family during this challenging time.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Jordan & Keri
